PRIESTLY SOC. OF ST. AUGUSTINE OF THE HOLY CROSS

                 Priestly Society of St Augustine

Most Reverend Bishop Bernard Lopez SSSA/Holy Cross, Grand Prior Most Reverend Bishop Robert Alonso Sosa SSSA/Holy Cross, Chancellor and Advisor Most Reverend Bishop Donald Seekins SSSA/Holy Cross, Auxillary Bishop Societas Sacerdotalis Sancti Augustini We are strictly Augustinian priests dedicated to the Most Holy Cross and St. Augustine.

We are strictly augustinian priests dedicated to the most holy cross and st augustine.

Our basis as brothers in the Society   The Priestly Society of St. Augustine calls us all and challenges us to live according to the dictates of the Gospel,to love God and neighbor (Mt 22,40). We are called to deepen our relationship with Jesus each day through our lives and this involves a deep personal and ongoing relationship with the Divine Master. We must do this through our celebration of the Eucharist, our daily participation in the Divine Office of the Church, our prayerful lives and our desire to be used as servants of Jesus Himself. We also need to earnestly read and dwell on the Word of God in Sacred Scripture. We also need to have a great devotion to Mary, Mother of Jesus, our Mother and the Mother of the Church. The Rules of the Priestly Society of St Augustine should be read and embedded in our hearts. Let us all be worthy and deserving members of this great Priestly Society of St. Augustine.

THE SEARCH FOR GOD    We tend towards God continually and insatiably, consciously and unconsciously, in order to enjoy the infinite good that fulfils our desire for happiness, because God has made us for himself and our hearts are restless until they rest in him.” For that reason, our common dedication is to seek without limits Him who should be loved without limits. But we cannot seek God together, except in Christ Jesus, the Word made flesh for us. He is for us the way, the truth and the life, such that starting from the visible flesh we arrive at the invisible God. For this reason, personal and community prayer, study and the cultivation of knowledge, reflection on the realities of our time and apostolic activity, are indispensable factors in our search, which lead us to the things which are the concerns of society. For nothing human is foreign to us, but rather involves us more in the world, the ambit of God's love (see Jn 3:16) and of encounter with him.

AUGUSTINIAN EMBLEM     The emblem of the Priestly Society of St. Augustine is a variation of the book, heart with an arrow through it, and a heart on fire, which in one form or another is used as the logo of all Augustinian Orders. It comes from this short quotation from The Confessions of St. Augustine: "Thou hast pierced my heart, O Lord, with the arrow of Thy love, and set it aflame with Love.".

OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP

Mary brings us to her Son.

It is the acid test of proper devotion to Our Lady. Intimacy with Jesus can only be assured through sincere and persevering prayer. Two Marian prayers which have received continuous Papal support are the Angelus and the Rosary (M.C. ..40-55). The Angelus commends itself on several points: its simple structure, biblical character, historical link to the prayer for peace and safety, its rhythm which sanctifies different moments of the day, and its remembrance of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. The Rosary has been called "the compendium of the entire Gospel". It draws from the Gospel the mysteries and its prayers. The Rosary considers in succession the principal salvific events accomplished in Christ. In addition to elements of praise and petition, the quiet rhythm and lingering pace of the Rosary is conducive to contemplation. It is highly adaptable to individual or group recital, and is ideally suited for family prayer. Christ is the only way to the Father (Jn. 14:4-11), and the ultimate example for the Christian. The Catholic Church has always taught this and nothing in its pastoral activity should obscure this teaching. The Church has taught, however, by the Holy Spirit and by the benefit of centuries of experience, that authentic devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary has a great pastoral effectiveness and constitutes a force for renewing Christian life. Ultimately, Mary challenges us with the person and message of Jesus: "Do whatever he tells you." (Jn. 2:5)sting about your business here.

.Christ is the only way to the Father

(Jn. 2:5) In the public life of Jesus, Mary makes significant appearances. This is so even at the very beginning, when at the marriage feast of Cana, moved with pity, she brought about by her intercession the beginning of miracles of Jesus the Messiah. In the course of her Son's preaching she received the words whereby in extolling a kingdom beyond the calculations and bonds of flesh and blood, He declared blessed those who heard and kept the word of God, as she was faithfully doing. After this manner the Blessed Virgin advanced in her pilgrimage of faith, and faithfully persevered in her union with her Son unto the cross, where she stood, in keeping with the divine plan, grieving exceedingly with her only begotten Son, uniting herself with a maternal heart with His sacrifice, and lovingly consenting to the immolation of this Victim which she herself had brought forth. Finally, she was given by the same Christ Jesus dying on the cross as a mother to His disciple with these words: "Woman, behold thy son".

The Magnificat

My soul magnifies the Lord And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior; Because he has regarded the lowliness of his handmaid; For behold, henceforth all generations shall call me blessed; Because he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name; And his mercy is from generation to generation on those who fear him. He has shown might with his arm, He has scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart. He has put down the mighty from their thrones, and has exalted the lowly. He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. He has given help to Israel, his servant, mindful of his mercy Even as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his posterity forever.

About Us

St. Augustine  was   bishop   of   Hippo Regius   (present-day   Annaba, Algeria). He was a  Latin philosopher   and   theologian from the African Province of the  Roman Empire   and is generally considered as one of the greatest Christian thinkers of all time. His writings were very influential in the development of  Western Christianity .According to his contemporary   Jerome, Augustine "established anew the ancient Faith."   In his early years he was heavily influenced by   Manichaeism   and afterward by the   Neo-Platonism   of   Plotinus. After his conversion to Christianity and his baptism in 387, Augustine developed his own approach to philosophy and theology, accommodating a variety of methods and different perspectives.   He believed that the grace of Christ was indispensable to human freedom and he framed the concepts of original sin .
